About Me
I’m an experienced and versatile voice artist with over 20 years experience of working in this area of the business. I’m also nice, friendly and easy to work with (so I’m told).
Whilst I started out working in all aspects of the industry- acting, singing, dancing and voice work, theatre (Blood Brothers in the West End) tv and audio- I came to realise that voice work was where I was happiest and best suited. I enjoy the less competitive, less showy environment and the more down to earth, less actor-y actors that I work alongside. It really is a lovely, friendly area of the industry.
And while visually we all have our stereotype to play (I must’ve played about 15 different princesses) with audio work I can play almost anything: technical informative lecturers, 7 year old boys, yes- the princess, the villain, comedy sidekick, leading ladies, the bitchy friend, the witch, a cat, a crying baby, the strict teacher, the warm mother, the sexy siren or the granny! I’d never get to play such a wide variety of characters visually. (Although I have played a cat (Puss in Boots) and a spider (Charlotte’s Web) on stage).
As a child, when grocery shopping with my mum, I used to pick up products from the shelves and do the adverts, with different accents and styles of delivery. It’s lovely that I now do that for a living. I’ve worked with brands such as: McVities, Elemis, New Magazine, Oxfam, BP, Lloyds Bank and Nescafé.
I inherited one of the best witch cackles you’ll hear from my mum, which was always cool at Halloween, and for cackling under bridges together enjoying the echo effect. This has now been called upon many times at work. You can hear it on my animation and radio reels.
Radio is a particular favourite of mine. On my radio reel there are clips from two of my favourite jobs. Coffee Break (with Paul Copley and Natasha Pyne) a series of 65 episodes of a soap opera made in association with Nescafe, and a radio play adaptation of The Magic Faraway Tree, one of my favourite childhood books, for BBC Radio 4 (with Johnny Vegas and Lucy Beaumont).
I also love straight reads, corporates and technical sessions. I studied phonetics for 2 years, which has come in handy for dictionary sessions where a specific pronunciation is required. It’s also useful for international words and language, where without phonetics you couldn’t guarantee using the correct pronunciation.
I provide voices and songs for toys including: cars, mermaids, teethers, balls, animals, little children and Disney Frozen 2 toys. (Sorry mums and dads, I know these noisy toys drive some parents mad – but kids love them).
I started recording for ELT sessions when I was at school. These sessions require using a variety of voices: straight reads, headings, kids voices, simple songs and chants, teen voices, British regional and International dialects, with changes of pace depending on the level. My knowledge of phonetics comes in handy here for technical sessions. I also regularly record phonics for early learners.
I’ve been a regular on the ADR and dubbing circuit for around 20 years and have worked on hundreds of productions.
Films include: Perfume, Anna Karenina, Grimsby, The Theory of Everything, Absolutely Fabulous, Legend, Judy, Testament of Youth and Bohemian Rhapsody.
Film musicals include: Into The Woods and Beauty and the Beast (live action version).
TV includes: Midsomer Murders, Cold Feet, Pennyworth, Poldark, Luther, The Dark Crystal, The Feed, Doc Martin, The Witcher and I Hate Suzy.
I won’t try to describe my voice. Have a listen to my voicereels and decide for yourself or read some of the testimonials from clients I’ve worked with. Thank you to all the lovely people who have provided them. I look forward to working with new visitors to this site, then hopefully you can write a glowing recommendation of your own!
